If you've worked through all 7 modules, you now understand more about financial privacy and Zcash than most people in the world. This final module brings it all together into a practical plan you can start today.
What you need to leave safely
Leaving an abusive relationship takes preparation. Most survivors who leave safely — and stay gone — have planned for months in advance. A financial foundation is central to that plan.
| Expense | Typical Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First + last month's rent (deposit) | $1,500–$4,000 | Varies widely by location |
| Moving costs | $200–$2,000 | Less if you leave with little |
| New phone + plan (different number) | $200–$500 | Critical if stalkerware suspected |
| 2 weeks food + household supplies | $300–$600 | |
| Emergency childcare | $500–$1,500 | If applicable |
| Legal consultation | $0–$500 | Many DV legal services are free |
| Target total | $2,500–$8,000 | Start with $500 as first milestone |
The gradual fund-building framework
You don't need the full amount before you start. You need a starting point — and a steady, invisible stream of additions.
A sample 6-month plan
- W1Week 1: Foundation
Wallet set up on a private device. Seed phrase stored safely at a trusted friend's home. Emergency ZEC received to confirm the wallet works ($5–$20).
- M1Month 1: First $100
Trusted contact sends $20–$30 per week over 4 weeks. Milestone: $100 in your private wallet — invisible, safe, yours.
- M3Month 3: $500 milestone
First critical milestone. $500 is enough for transport and one week of emergency accommodation in most places. Safety plan activated.
- M4Months 4–5: Connect with a shelter
You don't need to wait until financially ready to talk to a professional. DV organizations can help you plan while you continue saving.
- M6Month 6: $2,000+ and exit-ready
With a shelter connection, legal plan, trusted support network, and a private financial fund — you are ready. The timing is your decision.
The complete safety plan — beyond finances
Your Zcash fund is one tool in a complete safety plan. Financial independence is necessary but not sufficient:
- A destination — a shelter, a trusted person's home, or a rental in another area
- A communication plan — a new phone number, Signal, a safe email address
- Important documents — passport, birth certificates, medical records (keep copies off-site)
- A trusted contact network — at least 2–3 people who know the plan and can help
- A legal plan — understand your rights, custody arrangements, protective orders
- A financial emergency fund — your Zcash shielded wallet
Seven months after the worst night of her life, Linh had $1,800 in her shielded Zcash wallet — built $25 at a time by her sister, week after week. Her partner had no idea it existed.
On a Tuesday morning while he was at work, she took her daughter, two bags, and her phone (a borrowed one with no stalkerware) — and left.
She had enough for the first month's rent. She had a job lined up. She had a lawyer's number in her Signal contacts. She had options. And options meant she never had to go back.
If you need emergency help right now
Your financial plan matters — but if you are in danger today, please reach out immediately. Financial preparation is for people who have time to prepare. If you don't have that time, there are people ready to help you right now.
